As you may be aware, HMG announced in the 2020 budget that it would conduct a fundamental review of business rates in England.  Matthews & Son are advising on the consultation through various channels.

HM Treasury has now issued a ‘Call for evidence’ for businesses to consider with a view to changing the system and ‘reducing burdens’. The questions are in two ‘tranches’ with responses to be made by 18 September and 31 October 2020. They cover elements such as reliefs, business rates multipliers, the valuation process, billing process and whether there are alternatives to business rates.

Matthews & Son have had significant experience in business rates matters for a variety of property sectors. We are now assisting with contributing to industry wide responses to the Call for evidence with both the Mineral Products Association and the British Ceramic Confederation, as well as making responses independently on behalf of some clients.

For assistance with anything related to business rates, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
